HER SIDE
Our story goes back to before freshman year at A&M. We both were accepted into A&M under the Gateway program to start summer classes in July 2009. Cody was a “big deal” and all the girls thought he was SO cute. I thought he was overrated and I had a boyfriend. We didn’t talk. We started class in the fall and had a class together and I noticed he was in there, but again, we didn’t talk. That Spring, I, newly single, started hanging out more with a group of people through my friend Courtney. Me and Court were at lunch one day, and Cody rode by on his bike and said a sassy comment to Courtney, smiled, introduced himself, and rode off. He was charming, but the sassiness confirmed all of my thoughts about him. We hung out several times that semester in a group, but he was definitely in the “friend zone”. When we came back in the Fall, our friend group was inseparable, we hung out all the time. I went to China over Christmas 2010 and we had a class together that Spring and so Cody asked me to go to lunch to tell him about my trip. I did, not thinking anything of it (It was on-campus meal plans!) He made a comment, “Hey, we should date, get married and move to China” and my response was “Uh, I would never date you…that would be so weird”. So that was that. I worked at Kanakuk that summer and he called me a few times and asked me to call him on his days off. When a guy I liked didn’t work out, Cody was the first one to tell me “Its okay, you need to date a Communication major” (He wasn’t inconspicuous). In the Fall, we were still best friends. He asked me when we were going to go on a date. I talked to my best friend Kara about it so much she finally told me to go on the date because it was obvious I liked him since he was all I talked about. So we did. In October we went on our first date and started our official relationship. He told me he loved me over Christmas break and during Spring Break we talked about our future together while we were in Florida on a mission trip. Cody asked me to marry him on October 5th 2012 and I said yes!
HIS SIDE
I first noticed Kelly during the Fall semester of my freshman year. She sat in front of me in one of my classes. I never talked to her or knew who she was until I was heading back to my dorm after a class and saw her and a good friend of mine, Courtney, talking. I said hello to Courtney and introduced myself to Kelly and went on my way. I must admit, I definitely was fond of Kelly’s looks. Fast Forward about a year and we started becoming closer friends through Courtney and were eventually hanging out multiple times a week. I had always thought dating Kelly was going to be an opportunity in the future, but she was very uninterested, or at least she “pretended” to not be interested. I had known she was definitely the kind of girl that I wanted to marry. I knew that one way or another, that my opportunity would come. I really was not inconspicuous about it. It was one of those things where it was so obvious that she probably thought I was kidding. But after multiple comments, I think she finally figured out that I wasn’t kidding. She finally accepted an invitation to go on a date with me and here we are!
