When it happened

October 5, 2012!

The Story

Cody asked me to go to dinner on Friday to celebrate our one year anniversary. Our anniversary was on Monday, but we had a lot going on that week, so it wasn’t out of the ordinary to postpone it.  Cody told me he had a work party after dinner so he couldn’t hang out and conveniently my dad had asked me to accompany him to a meeting at our church. I was a little suspicious, but I was convinced against thinking it was happening that night. My roommates were all in on it and Cody had a long convincing story when we got in the car about how excited he was for his work party. After dinner Cody dropped me off at my parents. My dad and I hung out a little before heading to the church ( I later found out that this was a stalling tactic so Cody could get stuff ready). We walked into the church and into the sanctuary and once I opened the door, I knew. My dad told me to go and I threw him my purse and speedily walked down the aisle. Cody is so thoughtful and had decorated the whole thing so beautifully. He asked some of our best friends to help out by playing worship music, videoing, and taking pictures! He thought of everything. He said some of the sweetest things and read a passage from a Bible. He gave me the Bible and the name “Kelly Hawkins” was engraved on it. He asked me to marry him and I said YES! We got to spend a little while debriefing while our friend, Tim continued to play and Cody told me all about the last few months planning. We went out into the foyer where our families were waiting for us and then back to my house where my roommates had planned an engagement party! It was the best day ever and I am so excited and lucky to be engaged to my best friend.
